Greeting from President Dear Colleague
Koujirou Yamamoto, Ph. D.
The Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences (JSPHCS) was established as the Hospital Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in June 1990 and moved to the JSPHCS in January 2001. It is my great honor to be appointed as the 8th president of JSPHCS, as the successor to the former president Dr. Masahiro Okuda. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to serve as a representative of such a prestigious society and determined to contribute to the development of the Society.
JSPHCS has been building up an outstanding tradition by making numerous achievements in pharmaceutical care research, and human resource development. As the end of 2021, the number of regular members is 13,750, which is more than 10 times the number at the time of establishment.
One of the important activities of JSPHCS is the scientific meetings. At the 31st Annual Meeting held in October 2021, it was held online due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection, more than 10,000 people participated and more than 1000 academic presentations were made. Regarding the annual meeting scheduled in the future, we would like to promote reforms in response to the new era. In addition, the Freshers Conference will be held in the spring with the aim of providing opportunities for pharmaceutical students, graduate students and pharmacists who have just started research activities to present their research results. We would like to bring together the power of the members in younger generation in our society and provide a place where you can experience the wonderfulness of research and aim for further enhancement as an academic meeting. We publish two academic Journals, "Japanese Journal of Pharmaceutical Care and Sciences (mainly in Japanese)" and "JPHCS (English)", so that we can disseminate useful information for medical treatment or pharmaceutical care by publishing the research results as a dissertation.
Our Society accredits certified pharmacists in 4 fields. The number of certified members is increasing year by year, and the development of human resources who support medical care in Japan is steadily progressing. We enhance the lectures and workshops for those who aim to obtain certification and for certified pharmacists to skill up their specialty.
In order for the JSPHCS to fulfill its responsibilities in society, we would like to incorporate the opinions of our members and create an environment where we can work together as one. For the next two years, we will do our utmost to tackle these issues with the help of directors, employees, and members.
We look forward to your continued support and cooperation in the activities and management of this society.
